My goal is to help you understand your health needs and put you in control as you make decisions about treatment for your health.
I place great importance on taking a very thorough and detailed case. I use this information to provide a diagnosis (understanding of what is going on), prognosis (what the likely outcome is and when you can expect to see it) and treatment plan (what we need to do). It is important that this makes sense to you.
I want to ensure that you understand as much as is reasonable what is happening to you and what your treatment options are. In order to do that, I need to spend adequate time with you. For that reason I see my adult patients for two initial one-hour visits about 7-10 days apart. I use the time in between visits to collect other relevant information. With children, and occasionally in uncomplicated cases, I can sometimes put together a plan at the end of the first visit.
I take the time to assess any relevant lab results taken by your family doctor or other health care provider. In some cases I may suggest ordering other lab work to help me more accurately assess your health condition. This can be standard blood tests from local labs or more detailed and specialized lab work from recognized and regulated labs both in Canada and the US. This can be in areas related to toxicity, parasites, metabolism, hormones, genetics, allergy and the like, as your case warrants. I will then take the time to explain the results to you so that you can make informed decisions and also to ensure that you are as involved in your health care as much as you want to be.
If you are experiencing an acute episode of your illness, I will provide treatment during the first visit provided it is appropriate to do so.
When it is useful and only when you agree to it, I work with both medical doctors, pharmacists and other health care providers when they are available to discuss special needs related to your medications and treatments.
Let’s make this a purposeful and rewarding experience for you.
What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine is a system of health care that blends traditional and natural forms of healing and modern scientific knowledge. Naturopathic medicine assesses and treats the whole person by identifying and treating the underlying cause of a condition and not just the symptoms of the illness.
More and more, people recognize that individuals are not just a collection of symptoms to be treated separately. They are beginning to understand that many seemingly unrelated symptoms and illnesses are really connected and are often only parts of an underlying process.
Naturopathic medicine assesses the health of individual organs and functions but looks deeper to uncover the underlying causes that connect many different symptoms. The naturopathic doctor (N.D.) then considers a range of natural methods to restore you to a well-functioning state of health. In short, naturopathic medicine treats you as a whole person, not just a collection of symptoms. Read more about naturopathic medicine >>
